'Pioneer' Awards During On Demand
Exposition Later This Week
For the third consecutive year, Cygnus Business Media, publisher of Printing News and Print On Demand magazine, and Advanstar Communications, organizers of the On Demand Digital Printing and Publishing Exposition, will present Print On Demand Pioneer Awards. This year's recipients will be David Brooks of Brooks Litho and Digital Group, North Amityville, N.Y., and Laura Field, president of Russell-Field Paper Co., Lemont, lll

The Pioneer Awards honor the most influential early participants in the digital print-on-demand revolution. All of the winners have given generously of their time and talent to spur development of the market for digital printing, and to educate the graphic arts industry and the community of print buyers about this fast-growing printing category. Mr. Brooks was an early pioneer in metro-area digital printing, having installed the first digital offset press on Long Island in 1995. Family owned Brooks Litho went completely filmless four years ago and has devoted considerable time and energy toward developing a market for variable data printing. The company now operates a Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 direct-to-plate press; a Heidelberg Quickmaster DI direct-to-press system; an Indigo E-Print 1000+ digital press; a wide-format, ColorSpan Displaymaker XII; an HP5000 inkjet; and a Halm SuperJet two-color envelope press, along with a complete prepress department.

Pioneer Awards
The On Demand Digital Printing and Publishing Exposition, held April 22-25 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan, provided the setting for the third consecutive Print On Demand Pioneer Awards presentation.

Cygnus Business Media, publisher of Printing News and Print On Demand magazine, teamed with Advanstar Communications, organizer of the event, to present the crystal sculptures to this year's winners. Flanked by Cygnus' David Nathanson, publisher, Print On Demand, and Jann Levesque, group publisher, Cygnus Graphics Network, this year's recipients, David Brooks of Brooks Litho and Digital Group, North Amityville, N.Y., and Laura Field, president, Russell-Field Paper Co., Lemont, Ill., are all smiles as they show off their awards. The Pioneer Awards were instituted as a way to recognize the most influential early participants in the digital print-on-demand movement. All winners have worked to stimulate development of the digital printing market and to educate members of the graphic arts industry as well as the community of print buyers about this rapidly growing segment.
